Mission Brief
The St. Margaret Family Health Centers contacted our studio to revisit a first aid guide originally made for school nurses in 1991. Our task was to each develop a physical artifact and eBook that re-contextualizes and rethinks the organizational system and voice of the original. Dr. Ann McGaffey referred to our designs to update the guide. I chose freshman college students as my audience because they are adapting to a new living environment. I thought about which graphic style, scale, and wording would best suit this user group.
My Process
To start, I explored type families I felt would be appropriate for my audience. I chose Circular STD in the end for its warmth and distinctive quirks. Circular is based primarily off of geometric forms, allowing for easier “play” or editing of the type forms.

Content Organization
At this point I find ways to group the ailments by categories. I had considered organizing the content entirely by alphabetical order, but decided against it to group the topics in recognizable sub-areas. In the end I decided on Soft Tissue, Muscle and Bone, and Other.
